![]() The senators’ request for a new policy ending the detention of pregnant and postpartum immigrants follows a report by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General (DHS OIG) which found a lack of processes and guidance for the appropriate care of pregnant individuals and years of documentation of serious mistreatment suffered by people in CBP custody. Washington-Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) joined Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and a group of their colleagues to call on Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to end the practice of detaining people who are pregnant, postpartum and/or nursing.
